Danielle R. Oakley, PhD

Director, Counseling and Consultation Services

“Helping others see that they have the ability to make positive changes in their lives is one of the most rewarding parts of my job,” says Dr. Danielle Oakley, Director of Counseling and Consultation Services (C&CS).

Oakley oversees the C&CS program that provides more than 17,000 client visits a year and offers services such as individual and group counseling, 24-hour crisis intervention, psychiatry, and wellness classes such as yoga and stress management.

Before coming to UHS, Oakley served as the director of counseling services and strategic initiatives for Colorado State University (CSU), where she established their group therapy program as one of the largest in the country. “I have always been drawn to the energy of college campuses,” says Oakley, “and I value the opportunity to work as part of a team to address the comprehensive health issues that challenge college students today.”

UHS hosts a Pet Therapy study break every spring to help ease the stress of students, but for Oakley, that stress relief comes every day when she’s greeted by her three black labs at home. “I encourage students to take time each day to relax, and laugh. And that time for me is with my dogs,” says Oakley.
