Q:
How can I choose the clinician I wish to see?

A:
When possible, you are encouraged to see the same clinician each time you come to UHS. Most health-care systems call this person your primary care provider (PCP). Read more about PCPs and why we recommend choosing a clinician to be your PCP. The online list of UHS Health Care Staff notes which clinicians are designated as PCPs.

Returning to see the same clinician, however, may take a little advance planning. It is usually possible to get an appointment in the Primary Care Clinic within one to two days. Acute problems are seen the same day. There may be a longer wait for routine exams and non-urgent problems.

In Women's Clinic and Dermatology, routine exams and non-urgent appointments are frequently scheduled several weeks in advance, so please plan ahead. For immunizations at the Travel Clinic, be sure to schedule an appointment well in advance of your expected departure, as multiple visits may be necessary.

For mental health concerns, you'll be scheduled to complete a confidential information form and have a brief introductory consultation with a counselor. This 10- to 15-minute meeting will explore your concerns and the options available to you.
