Alfalfa sprouts linked to salmonella contamination

The FDA has issued a warning to consumers to avoid eating raw alfalfa sprouts and sprout blends containing alfalfa sprouts because these products have been linked to a salmonella contamination.

This warning, issued by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), only covers alfalfa sprouts -- no other types of sprouts are associated with contamination.

Investigators believe that the contamination has come from alfalfa sprout seeds. It is still unclear how many seeds are affected, which is why the FDA and CDC have issued a general warning.

Read the full warning from the FDA for more information.
