Individual Counseling
In individual counseling, you meet in 50-minute sessions with a mental health care provider who listens to you and works with you to address issues that are causing you distress or dysfunction. Your issues may be emotional, psychological, physical, academic, or spiritual. Your counseling experience may differ greatly from someone else’s, because it depends on your particular challenges and personality.
For one person, it may be a journey of self-exploration leading to greater personal growth. For another, it may be a way of discovering new tools and strategies for relieving unpleasant feelings and unwanted behaviors so you can work toward your goals. Yet another may choose to focus on seeking relief from painful memories or destructive thought patterns.
The counseling professionals at UHS use brief, solution-focused counseling methods. Many personal issues can be addressed effectively in a brief period. If your concerns require more extensive services, a counseling group or referral to an appropriate community resource may be more appropriate.
