For Parents and Friends
In addition to serving students directly, the staff of UHS Counseling and Consultation Services is also a resource to parents, roommates, and friends who may be concerned about a student or who want more information on a particular mental health issue.
Our 24-hour mental health crisis services are available to students in distress as well as people concerned about a student.
In 2008, UHS responded to hundreds such calls. Caller concerns included suicidal urges, suicide attempts, self-injury, severe anxiety, depression, mood disorders, domestic violence, sexual assault, psychotic symptoms, substance abuse, eating disorders and stalking in addition to situational crises related to academic performance, relationships, transition, and other difficulties.
Our staff are also an information resource to campus partners including University Housing, the Dean of Students, and the Parent Program to help address wellness and mental health issues that arise throughout the year. Below are some articles from the Parent Program newsletter either written by our staff or featuring interviews with them.
