Call for Help

Proactively reach out

If you notice a student misses class frequently, reach out and invite the student to meet with you during office hours. Below is a sample email template that you might use:

Dear Student,

I’ve noticed that you have missed a number of classes lately and I want to check in. I would like to find a time to meet with you soon. My office hours are [insert day/time/location]. Are you available to talk with me next week at that time? If not, please suggest alternate times that work for you.

I want you to know that you are not in trouble – I mainly want to understand how I can help you succeed in this class. If something is prevents you from coming to class or performing at your best, know that there are many free campus resources available to you. I know that college can be a stressful time with many demands, and UHS is a good place to go for support if you’re experiencing a lot of stress. You can reach UHS Mental Health Services at 608.265.5600 (option 2 during business hours, option 9 for crisis consultation).

I’m looking forward to talking with you soon.
