Denise Calhoun has experience in trauma, mood disorders, and assessment in both inpatient and outpatient settings. She is particularly interested in working in the college counseling setting and providing brief treatment to students. “My approach to therapy is integrative in nature, blending cognitive-behavioral strategies and interventions, exploration and processing of emotions, and attention to the impact of relationships, salient identities, and cultural factors, as they are related to students’ well-being.”
She has a PhD in Clinical Psychology, completed her internship at a VA hospital, and was a post-doctoral resident at the counseling center at UW Lacrosse.
During her post-doc, she has focused on facilitating greater accessibility to mental health for traditionally under-served populations. She has provided Let’s Talk, been a group facilitator in both process and didactic groups, liaised with campus partners and enjoys making connections with the campus community.
