Liz Axtell started working at UHS in summer 2023 and chose to work in college health because attending university can be both exciting and challenging, and is often the time when people start to form their identity outside of their family of origin. As someone who was a first generation college student and is currently a first generation graduate student, Axtell has experiences firsthand how important outside supports are to successfully move through this stage of life.

Axtell views her role as a therapist as providing a safe, supportive space to help each person identify and reach their personal goals. She favors orientations like Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) when working with clients.

When she is not at work, Axtell enjoys watching television (especially fantasy or drama shows), listening to podcasts, going on walks, baking, playing board games, and exploring new coffee shops, restaurants, and book stores. Axtell also participates in a laid-back book club with friends from across the US in her free time.
