Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP)

SHIP is a comprehensive insurance plan for UW–Madison students, which covers additional health care costs incurred both at UHS and elsewhere. This includes travel, meningococcal vaccines, and the HPV vaccine at UHS, as well as after hours, emergency room, hospitalization, and other specialized medical services, locally and nationwide.

Visa, MasterCard, Discover accepted. No convenience fee.

SHIP is currently accepting Summer enrollments from newly eligible students only.

SHIP coverage is effective from your first day of class.
The SHIP office must receive enrollment together with full payment within 31 days of your first day of class.

Please note that Domestic Summer enrollments cannot be processed online. Click here for other enrollment options.

Annual and Fall open enrollment for registered students begins July 15, 2026.

Eligibility

Domestic Students

For U.S. citizens or U.S. permanent residents, who are actively enrolled at UW–Madison for at least six credits as an undergraduate student OR three credits as a graduate student.

For international students registered for class at UW–Madison on any type of non-immigrant status (such as an F-1, J-1, H-1, etc.).

International Scholars

For visiting scientists, professors, postdoctoral fellows, and students in academic training who completed their program of study, or non-degree research project students on a J-1 visa who are NOT registered for classes.
