There is no additional charge for most UHS services including: medical and mental health counseling appointments, radiology,
laboratory tests, victim advocacy, and flu shots. Our services are confidential.
Student eligibility
All UW–Madison students who are enrolled for credit during a fall, spring, or summer semester and pay segregated fees are eligible to use all UHS services during that academic term.
Guest students are not eligible to use UHS because they are not enrolled for credit and do not pay segregated fees.
Confidential victim advocacy services are available during the summer term for students who plan to return to UW–Madison during the next fall semester, regardless if the UHS summer fee is paid.
Non-students
UHS also provides or coordinates certain services for non-students in the following categories:
- UW–Madison employees may receive seasonal influenza vaccinations at clinics around campus in the fall through Occupational Medicine. Proof of insurance must be provided.
- SHIP International Scholars and SHIP spouses/partners should use UHS as described in the terms of the UW–Madison Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP).
- Non-students participating in couple/partner counseling with an eligible UW–Madison student.
Mental Health Services
Due to professional licensure requirements, Mental Health Services and Psychiatry providers are not able to provide counseling treatment and care to students who are physically outside of the state of Wisconsin. Read our informed participation agreement as well as informed consent for telemental health.

Costs
There are charges for some UHS services including most immunizations (except free flu shots), physical therapy appointments, orthopedic equipment such as splints and braces, and third-party physicals, and certain lab work and tests connected with those physicals. UHS will bill students if payment is not made at time of service.

Referrals
When students require advanced diagnostic tests, certain types of mental health treatment, or other specialty care, UHS will referral to an appropriate provider in the community. Students are responsible for all charges for such specialty care, which may qualify for full or partial coverage or reimbursement under their health insurance plans. Students are responsible for contacting their insurance carriers to determine which providers may be covered under their plans.

If payment is not received within 60 days, a hold will be put on your student records, and you will be unable to register for classes or receive transcripts until the bill is paid. Health insurance reimbursement
