Violence Prevention Specialist
- She, Her, Hers
A primary responsibility of Nola’s [she/her] role is co-coordination of the GetWIse workshop series, the in-person violence prevention session required for all first year and transfer students. In this position, she is privileged to hold joint responsibility for hiring, training, and supervision of the graduate and undergraduate student Violence Prevention Peer Educators. She is also the coordinator of ActWIse, a homegrown violence prevention bystander intervention strategy utilized primarily with new fraternity and sorority members, as well as available to interested students, staff, and faculty across campus.
Nola’s prior experience is in culturally-specific survivor advocacy and community-based sexual violence prevention with high school teens. Her background in gender and feminist studies informs her intersectional approach to prevention work and her belief that meaningful social change efforts are grounded in authentic relationship-building, a steadfast commitment to an ethic of care, and a critical systems lens.
