U Got This! empowers students to make healthy decisions about sex and dating, intervene in difficult situations, and learn about resources available to survivors on campus.
After completing U Got This!, students will:

- Identify social norms, attitudes, and behaviors that promote violence and victim blame
- Use of bystander intervention strategies to disrupt attitudes and behaviors that contribute to sexual assault and dating violence
- Recall the confidential advocacy and support services available to student survivors and victims, both on- and off-campus
- Demonstrate increased empathy for survivors of sexual and relationship violence
- Understand victim rights and UW-Madison/community reporting options
Following the completion of the U Got This! program, all new students are also expected to complete one of three program options in the GetWIse@Home violence prevention course. The GetWIse@Home program will be available in Canvas following the U Got This! completion date.
Deadline for new Spring 2023 students: Wednesday, January 25, 2023

General information about U Got This!
This is an accordion element with a series of buttons that open and close related content panels.
What is U Got This!?
The U Got This! program is an online relationship and sexual violence prevention education tool designed for first-year and incoming transfer undergraduate students. U Got This! was developed by Catharsis Productions, a company that seeks to change the world by producing innovative, accessible, and research-supported programming that challenges oppressive attitudes and shifts behavior.
All incoming undergraduate and transfer students are required to complete the U Got This! program and cannot register for future courses at UW-Madison until doing so.
Why do I have to take U Got This! and my friend at another school does not?
While federal and state law require colleges and universities to provide primary prevention and information about sexual assault, dating violence, sexual harassment, and stalking to all incoming students, each college or university gets to decide how they will deliver this information. U Got This! is the foundation for relationship and sexual violence prevention at UW-Madison and equips all new students with life skills to be global citizens, empowers students by providing many options for healthy behavior, and outlines clear expectations for what UW-Madison expects of its students. Students at other schools may be required to complete a different training.
I'm a first-year or new transfer student, how do I access the U Got This! program?
After the course has been made public on August 1, 2022, log on to your Canvas account with your NetID. Select “U Got This! | Fall 2022.”
To begin, follow the instructions on screen. You will need to complete the pre-program surveys, participate in each of the four U Got This! educational modules, and complete the post-program survey to be marked as 100% complete.
What is the deadline?
The deadline to complete U Got This! for new first-year and transfer students starting in Summer or Fall 2022 is Thursday, August 25, 2022.
The deadline for new first-year and transfer Spring 2023 students will be Wednesday, January 25, 2023.
All first-year and transfer students must complete U Got This! before they will be allowed to register for the following semester’s classes at UW. A registration hold will appear in the student center on or after the program deadline if a student has not yet completed the program and will not be removed until it has been completed.
Is U Got This! available with closed captioning?
Yes.
What if the content is emotionally triggering?
We understand that the discussion of sexual assault and dating violence can be difficult for survivors of violence. This online course allows students to participate in this program in the privacy of their own homes or residence halls at their own pace. The ESCAPE link at the top-right corner of the screen is always available, and the SUPPORT RESOURCES link can direct you to resources and support services.
If you feel that the program is too emotionally challenging for you, email violenceprevention@uhs.wisc.edu to ask about alternative options, including exemptions for survivors and victims.

Why do new students take U Got This!?
UW-Madison takes sexual and relationship violence very seriously and expects all students to do the same. It is very likely all students on campus either know a survivor of sexual or relationship violence, or will meet someone with that experience during their time on campus.
From research, we know that 1 in 15 men, over 1 in 4 women, and over 1 in 3 transgender and non-binary students experience sexual assault in during their time as an undergraduate. Among all undergraduates, first-year students and sophomores experience higher rates of sexual victimization than juniors and seniors. Additionally, nearly 10% of UW-Madison students reported experiencing physical, emotional, and/or sexual abuse by a dating partner in the past 12 months, and 46% of all undergraduates reported experiencing sexually harassing behaviors during their time at UW-Madison.
Sexual assault and dating violence are violations of the University of Wisconsin System student code of conduct and against the law. Knowing what warning signs of violence to look for, how to practice consent in all parts of life, what resources are available to help survivors, how to intervene as a bystander, and how to help a friend who may have experienced violence are crucial for making UW-Madison a safe place for all students.
Can I take U Got This! with friends?
The U Got This! program is designed for individual participation and completion. If a student does not complete U Got This! in their Canvas account, it will not be tracked and they will not be able to register for future classes at UW.
How long does U Got This! take?
Approximately 90-120 minutes, but it may take longer depending on how thoroughly students review the material.
What technology is required to complete the program?
You will need a desktop or laptop computer with an Internet connection and audio for this program.
U Got This! is not optimized for smartphones or tablets, such as Kindles or iPads, so do not plan to complete U Got This! on a smartphone or tablet.
Due to technical issues, avoid using Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge, and Chrome browsers (Firefox is the preferred browser) while completing U Got This!. It is also advised to enable third-party cookies in your browser settings.
Can I stop and save before I complete the U Got This! program?
It is recommended to complete each individual 20-25 minute module in one sitting to ensure you don’t have to complete a module more than once. You’re encouraged to take breaks between the modules.
Deleting your browser history, cookies, and cache may reset your module progress if you have not already completed said module.

What if the U Got This! course does not appear in my Canvas dashboard?
All degree seeking first-year and transfer UW-Madison students are required to complete U Got This! before registering for future semester classes. UW-Madison continues to update new information on enrollment during the first weeks of class and some students may experience delays in accessing U Got This! through Canvas. If you are required to take U Got This! but it does not appear in your Canvas dashboard, check Canvas again in a few days. If the problem persists, please contact violenceprevention@uhs.wisc.edu.
I completed the Module, but I can't progress to the next section. How do I navigate this?
Please ensure you have viewed the entire module and completed the Completion Quiz at the end of the module. After confirming your completion in the quiz, click the “next” button and exit the module window to return to Canvas. Once in Canvas, click the “next” button on the lower right-hand side of the Canvas page to proceed to the next section of the program.
If you’re still experiencing this issue, repeat the process outlined above. The previous module window must be closed in order to begin the next module.
If you are still not able to proceed after multiple attempts, please send a screenshot of the completed module and a short description of the issue you’re experiencing to violenceprevention@uhs.wisc.edu.
I'm playing the "Cool or Not So Cool?"/"Sex, Violence, or Both" game in Module 1 and the final prompt will not load. What do I do?
There is a known glitch affecting a very small number of users in the “Cool, Not So Cool” activity where a user will not be able to click the continue button if they clicked “Not So Cool” for every prompt (this is an incorrect response).
If this happens to you, please email violenceprevention@uhs.wisc.edu with a screenshot of the issue and UHS Violence Prevention Specialists will assist you in moving forward. You are not expected to attempt to re-take the module.
I completed the Quiz in Module 4, but I am not able to proceed to the Post-Survey. How can I resolve this issue?
Please first make sure that you’ve completed all lessons in Module 4, including the two completion quizzes.
To check your progress in Module 4, click the three lines in the upper-left side of the screen to view the Module 4 lesson menu. Any lesson you have already completed will have a red checkmark next to it. You must complete all lessons in the module in order to earn a completion score.
If you have verified that you’ve completed all required lessons in Module 4 and still don’t have a completion score in Canvas, please wait 10-15 minutes as it sometimes takes time for the grades to update, particularly during high traffic times for Canvas – such as near a program deadline.
If you have completed all of Module 4 and have waited 10-15 minutes, please email violenceprevention@uhs.wisc.edu with a detailed description of the issue you’re experiencing. Please also include screenshots of the Module 4 lesson menu showing red checkmarks for all lessons, as well as your passing score from the final Completion Quiz.

U Got This! is displaying a loading screen, but will not load. How do I fix this?
It is not uncommon for U Got This! to take several moments to load at times in the day when Canvas is experiencing unusually high user volume, or in locations where many people are trying to access the course at the same time (such as a residence hall). A strong Internet connection and compatible browser (Firefox is best) on a desktop computer or a laptop—not on a mobile device or tablet—are recommended.
If you are getting a loading message that won’t allow you to progress through the program, consider resuming the program on a different device and/or at a different location (such as a library or other campus space).
If the problem persists, please send a screenshot of the place you are stuck and a detailed description of the problem to violenceprevention@uhs.wisc.edu.
What if the Module 4 resource videos don't load?
It is not uncommon for videos to take several moments to load at times in the day when Canvas is experiencing high user volume, such as close to the program due date.
A strong Internet connection and compatible browser on a desktop computer or a laptop—not on a mobile device or tablet—are recommended. Update software if needed. Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and Internet Explorer are not compatible for participating in U Got This!. Please use the Mozilla Firefox browser to ensure a tech issue-free experience.
I clicked a response in one of the Modules, but nothing is happening. What do I do?
This can sometimes happen if a user clicks a response prompt too quickly while rushing through the program. To resolve it, click your chosen response again and the program should continue (you may have to click a different response to proceed). It is strongly advised to take your time while completing the program to avoid this.
If you are still not able to proceed after multiple attempts, please send a screenshot of the part of the program you’re stuck on and a short description of the issue you’re experiencing to violenceprevention@uhs.wisc.edu. A staff person will respond within 1-2 business days.
I completed a Module, including the completion quiz, and the next module will not unlock. How do I move on to the next module?
If for whatever reason, you complete the module and your Canvas grade does not update, please do not try to re-take the module.
Instead, open Canvas in a new window or tab and open the U Got This! course. After 10-15 minutes, check to see if your grade for this module updated to complete.
If your grade does not update after 10-15 minutes, please send a screenshot of where you are stuck in the program and a detailed description of the issue to violenceprevention@uhs.wisc.edu and someone will assist you within 1-2 business days.
The program froze and is displaying an audio icon. I can't move forward. What should I do?
Click the audio icon and you should be able to exit this screen.
If you’re unable to or are having additional troubles, email violenceprevention@uhs.wisc.edu with a description of the issue and a screenshot of the program.

This is an accordion element with a series of buttons that open and close related content panels.
Will my pre/post-program survey responses appear on my transcript?
No, individual responses to the program surveys will not appear on transcripts or on student records.
Responses may be viewed by UHS Violence Prevention staff, but will not be shared nor published except in composite (i.e., 68 percent of U Got This! participants could identify at least one office on campus dedicated to helping victims of sexual assault).
How can I verify that I completed this requirement?
A student has completed the U Got This! program when the pre-program survey, all four modules, and the post-program survey have 100% completion scores.
