Referral and Reporting Processes

Strategy: Increase awareness of appropriate referral and reporting processes

Faculty, instructional staff, teaching assistants, and advisors are often the first individuals to notice students who are in distress and need of additional support or intervention. You are an important link in the referral and reporting process.

There are campus resources available to you, including University Health Services. If you have urgent concerns about a student, call the UW–Madison Police Department at 608-264-COPS (or 911 in the case of an emergency). For less urgent concerns about a student’s state of mind, call the UHS 24-hour crisis line at 608-265-5600 (option 9) to consult with a counselor.
