Biography

John has worked to support the mental health of law students on campus since the fall of 2019 and joined UHS in 2024. As an embedded provider for the Law School, he provides individual therapy and drop-in support at Let’s Talk. John also serves as a bridge to additional resources within the Law School, at UHS, and in the community.

Approach

John particularly enjoys working with law students, as he finds they are motivated not only by the desire for personal growth but to make an impact on the wider world.

John has been trained in evidence-based strategies to foster changes in thought and behavior, including mindfulness and trauma-informed techniques. John approaches his work with curiosity, warmth, humility, and a bit of humor.

Professional Interests/Specializations

John is a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT)–where he provides training and consultation on the science and spirit of conversations which lead to behavioral change. He has also been certified as a Grief Support Specialist, has experience working in crisis intervention and diagnostic services, and studied at the Midwest Center for EMDR Training.

Personal Interests

John grew up in Madison and may be spotted walking his brindle rescue dog by its many lakes.
