Centering survivors through programming and space renovations

This April, UHS is centering student survivors through both community-focused programming and enhancements to our Survivor Services clinical spaces.

Our Sexual Assault Awareness Month program, “Connect & Reflect” features a student survivor art and history gallery and a closing reception including a film screening of Roleplay, a documentary about college students confronting sexual violence on their campus.

Over winter break, UHS made updates to the Survivor Services space on the 7th floor of 333 East Campus Mall to improve the care experience for students seeking support after an unwanted sexual encounter. This spring, construction was completed on a dedicated exam room for Sexual Assault Forensic Exams (SAFE). Located within Survivor Services, the new space allows students to access medical care, counseling and advocacy in one suite for a more comfortable and streamlined experience.

During a SAFE exam, students can expect:

  • A confidential space where they are heard and believed
  • Medical care focused on their body’s health, comfort, and safety
  • Clear explanations of your options allowing you to choose what feels right
  • Support connecting to advocacy, counseling, and off-campus resources

UHS is committed to empowering students to have agency in their healthcare. The Survivor Services webpage now features a section for students to choose their pathway to support based on what they may need in that moment, reducing barriers. In moments of vulnerability, having choices and compassionate support can make all the difference.
