Benjamin (Ben) de Boer joined UHS in 2014 as a pre-doctoral intern and became a staff psychologist in 2016. In all aspects of his work, he takes a collaborative approach. “I consider my clients to be experts on their experience,” says de Boer. “My role is to help them in developing their self-knowledge and realizing insights, and to assist them in accessing their capacity for change and growth.”

He provides individual, couples, and group counseling, as well as crisis interventions and Let’s Talk consultations. Group therapy is one of his professional passions. “Being a member of a therapy group provides people a sense of belonging and connection that can be both affirming and transformative,” says de Boer. In addition to facilitating several groups each semester, he organizes group programming at UHS-Mental Health Services in his role as Coordinator of Group Services.

In his free time, de Boer enjoys travel, cooking, and learning Mandarin. While he is originally from New England, de Boer also enjoys rooting for the Badgers, Packers, and Bucks in his adopted home state.
