Biography

Marlina joined UHS in 2025

As a mental health provider, Marlina sees her role as helping clients “re-author” their stories by examining different chapters, rewriting them, and adding new perspectives to create a narrative that aligns with their goals, needs, and wants. To do this, she aims to provide a supportive and empathic space for clients to safely explore their own identities and experiences to understand how they may impact their navigation of the world and the challenges they may be facing. 

Approach

Marlina’s philosophy on mental health treatment aligns closely with her theoretical orientation and is informed by her own identities as a bi-racial, immigrant clinician. Marlina takes a narrative perspective to therapy as she believes that every individual has their own unique story, influenced by relationships, culture, traditions, and society.

Professional Interests/Specializations

Marlina has worked in a variety of therapeutic settings. Prior to working at UHS she worked in a partial hospitalization (PHP) setting and in community mental health supporting people with various concerns such as depression, anxiety, OCD and substance use.

Marlina also has experience working in group settings, including CBT groups, psychoeducation groups, experiential groups, and various support groups.

Personal Interests

Outside of work, Marlina enjoys spending time in nature, attending music festivals, cooking, and snuggling with her two cats, Nori and Tikka.
